Chat #18 Special podcast from the annual Stibo Forum

Posted on Monday 18 September 2006

Special Guest Star! Donna Papacosta!

Last Thursday, Allan had the pleasure of talking about social media at the annual Stibo Forum held by Stibo Graphic for its many customers. Never missing a chance to show off their command of the medium, Lee and Allan record Chat #18 directly from the Forum.

In this chat, you’ll hear Lee, Donna, and Allan talk about how cheap & easy podcasting is, and move on to discuss why we bother to use social media. Is it masochism? Or does it have real implications for our businesses?

We cite, among other cases, Whirlpool’s American Family podcast, GM Fastlane Blog, the Southwest Airlines blog, and SecondLife.

[We apologize for the slight echo you’ll hear from time to time. Entirely Allan’s fault for stepping in front of the speaker.]

[…] On Chat #18 of The Comms Café podcast Donna Papacosta gives the example of the Canadian office of a German pharmaceutical company. The VP of sales in Canada puts out a podcast to reach his sales team across the country. The podcast is so popular with the team, Papacosta reports, that they’re asking the VP to interview other people in the company and include that in the podcast. […]

[…] Donna Papacosta, in a trans-global hookup with Allan Jenkins and I for one of his clients, hit the nail on the head when asked ‘why do it if your audience size is so small [compared to the readership of mainstream media]?’; Donna replied that it was because of ‘who’ her audience (her listeners to her podcast, the readers of her blog) were: they were influencers in her market, they were decision-makers, they were people as passionate about communication as she is. I can’t agree more — don’t worry that you don’t have thousands of people downloading your masterpiece! […]

[…] As Donna Papacosta (aka ‘Donna PepsiCola’) once commented in a trans-global hookup for one of Allan’s clients, it doesn’t matter if your audience is measured in the tens of thousands or the tens of ones, what does matter is who they are. […]
