… but a Hopkins-Jenkins conversation has never been successfully hijacked.
Matt Simpson, soon-to-be graduate of Auburn University, drops in on Lee and Allan to throw out some questions about advertising and PR. Listen in to living proof that two old fogies can handle tough questioning with a fair amount of aplomb.
Major topic: when celebrity bloggers move to a new place, how much of their brand is the new employer buying?
We talked about: Matt Simpson, Robert French, the Marcom Blog, Erin Caldwell, the Forward Blog, Robert Scoble, Podtech, Steve Rubel, Cooper-Katz, Edelman.

Thank you, guys. I appreciate you both including Matt in your podcast. The students are beginning to create their own by doing interviews with PR professionals. Then, they’ll host the recordings in their blogs.
Thoroughly enjoying your podcasts. Keep them coming. And, thanks for your kind comments about our class blogging experiments. They wouldn’t be nearly as good without the support of you and the other contributors. So, please remember how much we appreciate all of your support.
This podcast was particularly interesting. As for Rubel and Scoble, this whole marriage of niche celebrity and PR is going to be interesting to see work its way through. I’m not sure where it is all going, either.
Lee and Allan,
Firstly, I’m enjoying the show - consider me subscribed!
I was particularly interested by Lee warning Australian practitioners that we are ‘in for a hiding’ if we don’t become aware that the PR ground rules are changing.
I note that Australia is often 5 years or so behind trends that are picked up in the US. But, can we still afford this kind of delay with the continued growth and spread of the Web and social media?
Communicators no longer need to see themselves bound by geography - but as truly global communicators.
And if Australians are 5 years behind the game in the US - they’re 5 years behind the new global industry, period.
It’s essential that Aussie practitioners get up to speed with this stuff. Otherwise not just our communicators, but the also the businesses we advise, risk being left behind.

Matthew, I am amazed that you awoke in the middle of the night, and discussed such interesting topics with such clear articulation!
